Artist's statement

Rachel has over 15 years’ experience in textile history and creative embroidery techniques. She has worked as a museum curator for many years and is currently Curator for Gawthorpe Textiles Collection. Her love of textile history is reflected in her artwork.

In her recent work she has developed techniques of appliqué and free machine stitch on delicately coloured hand-dyed fabrics to make a range of wall pieces inspired by folk and fairy tales and the natural world. She also combines techniques using hand-dyed fabrics and appliqué in rag rug pieces.

She works to commission creating one-of-a-kind pieces for individual clients, and has a vibrant programme of workshops in hand and machine embroidery, appliqué and rag rugging.
